Job Description:
The Scientific Programmer/Analyst II supports NASA scientists on the ATMOS contract by developing software to process, evaluate, and visualize data. This role includes contributing to scientific publications, supporting mission deliverables, and applying advanced coding techniques for Earth system models and large datasets.

ATMOS is a NASA support services contract that provides advanced scientific, engineering, and technical expertise to enable Earth and space science missions. The program supports research, data analysis, technology development, and mission operations across multiple NASA centers. Through ATMOS, our teams deliver innovative solutions that help advance NASA’s mission and expand scientific discovery.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop software tools for atmospheric science data processing.
  • Collaborate with NASA scientists to prepare data for publications.
  • Support scientific presentations at conferences and workshops.
  • Optimize code for high-performance computing environments.

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of scientific programming experience.
  • Proficiency with FORTRAN, Python, C++, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with Git, shell scripting, and parallel computing desirable.
  • Strong background in Earth or atmospheric sciences preferred.

Education:

  • M.S. in atmospheric science, oceanography, physical science, mathematics, or computational science, or
  • B.S. degree in one of the listed disciplines, plus three years of experience relevant to the position. This experience is in addition to the experience required for the position level.
