STC has been awarded the System Engineering Services (SES) task order under the NOAA ProTech – Weather contract to support the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and we are anticipating hiring for this contract shortly.

NESDIS supports NOAA’s mission of Science, Service and Stewardship through our satellite missions, data centers, data and information products and services as well as use-inspired science. It is an end-to-end responsibility that underpins NOAA’s value to the Nation. NESDIS responsibility is to provide secure and timely access to global environmental data and information from satellites and other sources to promote and protect the nation’s security, environment, economy, and quality of life.  The continuous global coverage provided by NESDIS generates an uninterrupted stream of information and products. These products and information enable services used across the country in preparation for events that impact our climate, weather, oceans, daily lives, national safety, and provide essential information for national, regional and local planners and officials.

NESDIS is responsible for the procurement and sustainment of new flight and ground systems and the modification of existing systems needed to operate the satellites, collect, process, distribute, and store satellite data, products and services for the nation’s civilian environmental satellite (spacecraft and sensor) programs.  These systems include computers, communications, Radio Frequency (RF) equipment and the associated hardware and software. Additionally, NOAA builds, maintains and upgrades the physical infrastructure (e.g., facilities) supporting the satellite missions. Under certain circumstances, NESDIS may perform similar work on cooperative missions with other United States Government agencies, foreign Governments, and organizations. NESDIS is responsible for the Information Technology (IT) architecture and security of its computer systems that support both operational and administrative functions.

NESDIS is responsible for program and project level management activities for these satellite missions.  Government managers are responsible for the entire environmental satellite program or for portions thereof, including coordinating activities within the various NOAA/NESDIS organizations and with NOAA’s National and International partners.  NESDIS is also responsible for planning for future satellite missions, instruments, ground systems, products, and annual satellite program budgets.

NESDIS recognizes the benefits of cloud computing to include cost efficiencies, reduced capital footprint, agility to meet new and changing business requirements, resiliency and scaling to accommodate new data sources and products.
